Why the vig matters
Both sides of a market always add up to more than 100%. At -110 / -110 the posted prices imply 104.76% — that extra 4.76% is the sportsbook's cut, and it is why a coin-flip bet needs to win 52.4% of the time just to break even.
Removing the vig gives you the market's honest view. Compare that fair number with your own estimate: if you think a side wins more often than the fair chance says, the price is in your favour. If not, it is not a bet worth taking.
